Children’s Talk

Did you think of the puppets then ? they were good weren’t they . Now tell me are any of you like the young boy in the Sketch ?

I expect I was as a boy especially when I had to go to my grandma’s to do her shopping .- I would much rather have been off in the woods or the park climbing trees or some other adventure .

But you know if we expect Mum to do all those things that were mentioned in the sketch we should do things for them as well . they deserve it .

In the same way if we want to get to know Jesus them we should take some notice of what our reading says . not only are we told to ‘ honour our mother and Father but  to do it as if we’re doing it for Jesus so that that he will look after us too . in a little while we will have the opportunity to get a little gift of flowers for our mums to show them we do really love them  but don’t forget that in doing these things for mum and dad we are also pleasing Jesus .

Grown ups talk

Now then the children have shown us that we need to look after mun and dad and that always wanting to do the best for us is not always the best way of going about things . we’ve seen that we are told to honour our mothers and fathers but it means we’ve got to do the same for those we look after as well – maybe children , maybe grandchildren, maybe even for the boss at work ( often the hardest one) .

But if we look at what we have just heard we have a tough act to follow . even as Jesus was dying on the cross he still thought of his mother and his best friend . he knew they would be on their own and so he told them to stick together . his best mate was to look out for his mum and she was to look after the friend .

I want us to ask ourselves who is it that we need to help along the way ? who especially in this time of lent needs us and  can we put our own agendas aside to do something for them and ultimately for God ?

If we take nothing else away from this reading let us look to do  better in trying to do the things that Jesus would have us do.
